UNGKIT.COM - The world's oldest cultures or civilizations include Mesopotamia (Sumer), Ancient Egypt, the Indus River Valley, and the Yellow River Valley.
These early cultures arose in the areas of major river basins and began recording human history thousands of years before Christ.
Mesopotamia and Sumer emerged around 4000 BC between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers (present-day Iraq). The Sumerians are known as the inventors of the first writing system in the form of cuneiform and the wheel.
Meanwhile, the Ancient Egyptian civilization began along the banks of the Nile River around 3150 BC when King Menes unified Egypt. They are famous for their pyramid building, arithmetic, and papyrus paper.
The Indus Valley Civilization flourished around 3000 BC in what is now Pakistan and western India, with a highly organized and advanced urban system.
Meanwhile, the Ancient Chinese civilization in the Yellow River Valley began around 2700 BC around the Hwang Ho River, producing an agricultural culture and important inventions, such as porcelain and silk. (*)
