UNGKIT.COM – While there are many popular tourist attractions that draw large numbers of visitors, there are also many destinations that fail to develop—remaining stagnant or even becoming abandoned and unmanaged due to a lack of visitors.
According to various sources, tourist attractions often fail to thrive due to obstacles such as a lack of government support and regulation, poor infrastructure, low-quality human resources, and ineffective promotion.
Major barriers to tourism development include insufficient government support and regulation; complex bureaucracy; lengthy, overlapping investment licensing procedures; and a lack of attention and funding allocation from local governments for tourism area development.
Low-quality and inadequate human resources—characterized by a lack of training and hospitality, as well as poor awareness regarding the principles of safety, orderliness, cleanliness, comfort, beauty, hospitality, and memorable experiences—also contribute to the failure of tourist attractions to develop.
Furthermore, destinations often fail to grow due to difficult access roads and a lack of basic facilities, such as clean restrooms, places of worship, information centers, and communication networks.
Unsanitary, squalid, and unhealthy environments, along with issues regarding safety and security, present additional obstacles. Problems such as illegal levies, thuggery, and crime make tourists feel unsafe and uncomfortable.
Finally, weak or minimal promotion and marketing—such as a lack of information on websites or social media—can result in destinations remaining unknown and failing to attract visitors. (*)
